저는 싱가폴 친구를 대신해서 이 글을 올립니다. 싱가폴 친구가 지난 12월 가족여행으로 제주도에 놀러 왔다가 12월 22일 폭설을 만나 오도가지도 못하는 상황이 발생했는데, 경찰관 님들의 도움으로 무사히 숙소에 갈 수 있었습니다.

제 친구는 싱가폴에서 단체 가족여행으로 렌터카를 이용해서 다니고 있었는데, 갑자기 눈이 너무 와서 좁은 길에 갇혔었습니다. 설상가상으로 렌터카에 있는 스노우 체인은 하나가 끊어져 버리는 바람에 오도가지도 못하는 상황이었습니다. 렌터카 콜센터는 모두 연락이 되지 않았지만, 다행히 좁은 길 옆에 있는 집에 계신 분의 도움으로 경찰관분을 만날 수 있었습니다. 경찰관님이 여러가지 방법으로 시도해서 결국 경찰관님이 직접 숙소까지 안내해 주는 것을 따라 우회길로 도착할 수 있었습니다.

아주 긴 시간 고생해 주신 경찰관 2분께 너무 너무 감사한다고 너무 이야기하고 싶어했습니다. 심지어 제 친구는 서귀포 경찰서를 방문해서 인사를 드리고 싶어했지만, 서귀포 경찰서가 너무 큰 경찰서임을 알고 시도하지 못했습니다.

그래서 제가 이 메뉴를 통해 감사 인사를 드릴 수 있도록 이야기하고, 이렇게 글을 올려 드립니다.

다시 한번 정말 감사드립니다!! K문화를 통해 한국을 좋아하는 친구입니다. 다시 한번 한국 문화의 친절함에 감사드리고 있습니다.

아래는 제 친구가 상황을 설명해 준 원문입니다.

It was a snowy December evening and our car carrying our family of 8 got stuck on the road on the way to our Airbnb. Being foreigners in a tropical country, we were unfamiliar with driving on icy and snowy roads and we did not prepare ourselves or the car for it.

We were at a loss and we resorted to seeking help from the locals in the house nearest to us. They helped us to call the police.

The policemen thought of ways to help us get to our accommodation. Initially they told us to leave the car where it was and take a taxi, so they guided our family member in parking at a suitable spot. Then they helped us to book taxis. However, nobody accepted our booking even after a long time.

After many futile attempts, the policemen came up with an alternative. They found a different route to our Airbnb which might be manageable for us to drive as it was not on a slope.

One of the two police officers told us to get back into the car and follow him. He JOGGED in front of the car and led us along the route they found. Some time later along the way, we met up with the other police officer who was waiting in the car. I think he had gone ahead to check out the roads first.

They then continued driving in front of us and guiding us until we reached our Airbnb.

It was cold and dark but they stayed with us the whole time until we reached our accommodation safely. The entire ordeal was long and tiring as well as frustrating and frightening as we were foreigners who did not even know how to speak the local language. Thankfully, these two policemen came to our rescue and we felt that they truly tried their best to help us. They stayed with us throughout and we were very glad and comforted to have their help and a solution. We were just so relieved when we finally reached our Airbnb. Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the both of them for salvaging the situation and letting us continue our holiday safely and happily.
